AQUILA - Two years flying with the Spanish Imperial Eagle

Andoni Canela takes us for an intimate look into the world of the Imperial Eagle via rich multimedia content: photographs, videos, maps, interactive text and a children´s story, to enable us learn about the life of this endangered bird of prey of the Iberian peninsula (including its habitat, hunting and mating behaviour).

In order to complete this photographic project about the Imperial Eagle, he carried out over 200 days of field-work and observation covering all four seasons. All the photographs and videos appearing in AQUILA are of wild Imperial Eagles and have been recorded in their natural environment. In order to document these birds without causing disturbance, it was necessary to travel in remote areas and remain patiently for long periods.

Andoni Canela is an experienced professional photographer who specialises in wildlife and nature. He has travelled across five continents capturing spectacular images of polar bears, tigers, Iberian lynx, wolves, condors, whales, orangutans and pandas. Andoni´s work is regularly featured in international major publications including National Geographic, Geo, The Sunday Times, Newsweek, La Vanguardia and El País. In addition, he has published numerous books, El Oso Pardo Cantábrico, Éter, La Mirada Salvaje amongst others). His work has been shown in several exhibitions regarding Iberian wildlife (Tierra de Linces, La Mirada Salvaje). He is a recipient of the Godo Award of Photojournalism for his work on the Iberian wolf.
